About The Book
Freedom Tastes of Reality
is a celebration of our bodies in the era of the disembodiment of all
human relations and an exploration of individual freedom. Life no longer
happens around our body because we have ceased to inhabit the place in
which we physically find ourselves, life happens elsewhere, through our
digital devices. Hence, we no longer experience the world through our
bodies.
This project portrays some of Madrid’s thriving new art
scene key individuals during a ten-year period (2010-2019). With almost
sixty artists photographed, Freedom Tastes of Reality is not a
documentary work but a collaboration in which Barte involves the
subjects of his photography in the creation of the final images. Publisher’s Info

About the Artist
Juan Barte
is a visual artist, editor, and cultural manager. Born and raised in
Spain, his career led him to live in places like Los Angeles, Tokyo,
Vientiane, Ibiza, or Madrid. In the past, he developed his career in
graphic design for groups such as The Walt Disney Company. However,
photography was always one of his main interests, so in 2014 he started
to fully devote himself to his “obsession”.
Barte involves the
subjects of his photography in the process of the work. His goal is to
reorder experience rather than simply document it and bend appearances
to match his subjective narrative priorities. The resulting images are
caught in a tension between the staged story and the testimonial record.
Formidable Books aims to bring to life photobooks portraying a more diverse, complex, and authentic view of the world through collaboration and dialogue with artists that deny us the mere observer safe distance.
